A question on teacher

Even with the best of intentions and methodology, a teacher faces difficult situations in the class. Some students tend to use vulgar language or actions in the class and the teacher can’t and shouldn’t use corporal punishment. How does one deal with such situations in the class?

Could you please let me know whether a teacher is entitled to punish the students, if they are found doing vulgar and un-parliamentary things in the class. If it is criticized and opposed by the various stakeholders like parents, school authorities and society, what stand should a teacher take?

Gagan Gulati Such kind of situations make teacher annoyed but a teacher should not react; but it should try to understand the reasons for such behavior.
04 Mar at 3:05 PM
Reena Rana We should first ignore it, but if it crosses the limits we should warn him and finally call parents and tell principal.
04 Mar at 3:16 PM
Anuradha Sharma instead of creating scene in the class ..i take them out for 5 minutes after the class ..and teach the things required ....and warn them for the next time.
04 Mar at 7:02 PM
P M G Bashir Asdaque If a teacher lacks 'ability' of handling a class, he will get it back from students in the form of abuses and vulgar statments.
04 Mar at 7:33 PM
Poonam Sharma the best thing is finding out the most bad student in the class and teach him a lesson so others are also understand what u r....?
04 Mar at 8:59 PM
Sangamsunanda Thanks for your advice. We say that it is teachers responsibility to correct a child . In what way can a teacher deal a stubborn student.
04 Mar at 10:16 PM
Sangamsunanda It is said by many that a child is innocent and can be molded easily but today's children specially when they are in high school it is becoming difficult to deal them.
04 Mar at 10:18 PM
Sangamsunanda Can you please answer to my question first
04 Mar at 10:39 PM
Reena Rana WE should deal a stubborn child by providing counselling session for them
05 Mar at 9:04 AM
Pathan Khusru No question on teacher.
05 Mar at 1:18 PM
P M G Bashir Asdaque The teachers should not show their inability infront of the students to avoid vulgar statments.
05 Mar at 1:42 PM
P M G Bashir Asdaque Also, students must remember the values of the teachers.
05 Mar at 1:43 PM
P M G Bashir Asdaque Id teachers behave well I hope their will be no vulgar comments against them.
05 Mar at 1:43 PM
P M G Bashir Asdaque However to maintain discipline, students making vulgar comments should be immediately expelled from the institution.
05 Mar at 1:44 PM
P M G Bashir Asdaque This is a serious problem. We must discuss it on some large platforms.

05 Mar at 10:55 PM
Harekrushna Behera NCPCR, Child rights commission has extremely denied punishment to children. Only counselling and adopting different methods and calling their parents we can solve somethings.
06 Mar at 10:19 AM
Nandini Srivastava @Sangamsunanda, that depends on the views of your school Management.! Even if the parents allow teachers to punish their kids, the Managements often choose to take a soft approach as they do not want to lose out to competition So it will be a good idea to put your complaint down in writing and ask the Management what steps you need to take, thus putting the ball squarely in their court , so to speak.

Mayank Kumar A written note can be sent to the parents as well as the school management and the teacher has the rights to disallow such students in the class until some definitive action is taken on any such matter regarding the misbehaving students.
06 Mar at 9:56 PM
Mayank Kumar But again, a lot depends on much the school management supports the teacher in this regard. It is a subjective topic to discuss. Different schools have different preferences and approaches to such issues.
06 Mar at 9:57 PM
Sameer Shukla Teachers should follow SAAM that is samjhana and if this does not work then DAND that is punishment is the only remedy.
06 Mar at 10:57 PM
Brajesh If we ignore this type indiscipline, defintely it will be become harder and harder. It is seen so many place that one small indiscipline which ignored, it is reflected in big problem.

Jharna De I think as parents ,teachers and educational managements we need to create a more nurturing community collectively for such kind of students .This can be done by A) Building positive relationship for such students B) Take preventive measures for correcting behaviour C) Giving praise and encouragement D)Expressing Gratitude E) Showing kindness. Intially when I had to confront such kind of students everyday,. I really had to face problems but slowly with my work experience and going through several books on child psychology ,the above paramaters have helped me dealing with such students.
08 Mar at 2:45 PM
Sangamsunanda Now-a-days new laws are preventing the teachers from taking any kind of action on such students. Even if we try to council the student they complain that we scolded and we have to face the HM

Jagadish i have seen some students victoriously reentering the class after counselling from management. what ever it is?!
09 Mar at 6:51 PM
Shubhangi i think teacher should talk about it to the principal or concerned authority and parents also and that students also strictly as corporal punishment is there but we cannot let our respect down
09 Mar at 7:21 PM
Piyush Joshi teacher should also think that the child is not enought matured, so they must handle him in that way.
09 Mar at 11:39 PM
Rachna Jaggi even I am facing the same situation...its really horrible
10 Mar at 10:55 AM
Mayank Kumar I have been tough with my student when it was required. And there was a period when I had to scold on a daily basis (almost). It does feel very difficult within, but when the situation demands it, tough actions need to be taken.
11 Mar at 9:42 PM
Mayank Kumar Being patient, sweet, generous, etc. with the students is always a "goodie goodie" thing to talk about, but when it comes to reality, tough measures need to be taken. I guess it has to be the right mix of being patient and being tough .. depending on the situation.

Nikhat In a class u have students from all sections of society and environment and yes there are students who are mischievous and speak vulgar languages, and also are sometimes indecent and asks irrelevant questions now a days students don't show that respect to teachers.but being teachers we should know our responsibility and be patient.we cant reply back with the same.depending upon the situation a teacher should bring to the notice of the management and then parents.and deal with it accordingly and being calm and not being aggressive.
15 Mar at 5:45 PM
Nikhat students at various age undergoes various changes and also whatever environment a student is given he/she acts and behaves in that way.we as teachers and elders should take it seriously and should make the student understand patiently.they will only understand by love and sympathy.he/she may become aggressive if we shout or beat him/her..hope that should work.

Sunita Shukla Teacher is like parents of a student and makes close sharing even more than the Parents. He /She has right to Punish the student as accountability lies more with Teacher.
17 Mar at 11:28 PM
Sameer Shukla It is always appreciated if Student does not use vulgar words in the classroom. As teachers don't teach it.But if it is unavoidable Punishment is must, becoz "SPARE THE ROD SPOIL THE CHILD"
17 Mar at 11:41 PM
Mayank Kumar Agree with Sameer here. Point is that if the teacher is lenient with the student on these grounds, we are just preparing for a very bad future generation. A tough stance must be taken on disciplinary grounds.
18 Mar at 12:48 AM
Sashikala Punishment is a must in such instances but not corporal. It sh'd be such that the student changes mentally, understands his bad nature n turns good.
18 Mar at 1:17 PM
Dr Arjun Y Pangannav Basically as a teacher study/read the attitude of such students, including reason behind such behaviour, consult your teacher friend and mend the things by using suitable measures you find good. Don't make it mess.

26 Mar at 5:18 PM
Prabha Devi Value Education should be taught to the students. As students are tomorrow's future, every student should follow basic discipline. It is very important for a teacher to make a student a disciplined one than a ranking student. Mark out such students and call them individually and advice them properly. Tell them the consequence of such behavior and not repeat anymore.
26 Mar at 5:29 PM
Nandini Srivastava @Simita , Even if the teacher scolds a kid who is misbehaving, it is VERBAL ABUSE!, iF YOU WRITE A NOTE IN THE DIARY, IT IS mental abuse AND TRAUMATIZING THE KID! If you ask the Management to intervene. that means you are VICTIMIZING the kid!Any king of censure is tantamount to MENTAL HARASSMENT AND TORTURE, by today's definitions! So we need to choose carefully whether we still wish to take up the teaching profession.

Surely child will be embarrassed and will not say any thing. Then u offer to explain the meaning, and that will embarras the child more hence child will never ever trouble u....problem solved!!
