Case studies are gaining more importance in today’s teaching style. There are numerous benefits of using real life scenarios to teach different concepts to the students. Teachers can increase the students’ engagement with this adaptable style of teaching. This will not only give the students an exposure of their environment, but also help them have a better outlook of the concepts they’re learning.

According to a research, students learn more effectively when the case study approach is implemented. Be it any field/department or any grade, teaching with the help of case studies always turns out to be a favourable approach for the students as well as for the teachers. Most students learn better from practical examples than the basic principles in the textbooks. The use of case studies has proven to be an effective classroom technique as it introduces the students to various open-ended questions with a variety of possible solutions/answers. An effective case study should include the following elements:

  1. A problem related to the concept being discussed.
  2. A detailed description and clarity of the problem.
  3. Proper data that the students can refer to. This will help them come up with better solutions for the problem.

Case studies can help students develop an analytical approach, which will enhance their problem-solving technique. Studying about a real life scenario will give the students an opportunity to assess the problem better and understand the concept better.
