Percentage of Out of School students Shoots Up from the Poorest Faction: UNICEF data
Primary education forms the cornerstone of a studentâs life. If primary education is not appropriately rendered, the student can end up losing the learning fervor. Primary education is as essential to a student as is water to fishes. It is that crucial part of a studentâs life when the critical thinking abilities of a student begin to evolve, hence it is important that a student receive the apt primary education.
Itâs surprising that despite such significant place that primary and secondary education hold, many students globally remain deprived of it. According to the data of UNICEF, only a few countries have been able to realize the universal secondary education.
According to the data of UNICEF although from 2000 to 2013 the number of out of school children of lower secondary schools has dwindled from 97 million to 65 million; but the progress is moving at a glacial pace since 2007.
The data suggest that there exists significant disparities in secondary school attendance among differing socio-economic factions. The data is suggestive that in most countries the poorer are less likely to attend schools relative to their wealthier compeers. Less than one-third of adolescents from the poorest faction attend secondary school while three-quarters of those from the richest faction do. In a country like Mozambique, this disparity is even starker, where the secondary attendance rate among adolescents living in urban areas is four times higher than that of adolescents living in rural areas.
According to the data of UNICEF, 15% of the students remain out of primary schools worldwide. Moreover, 7% of the richest, 15% of the middle class and 32% of the poorest remain out of primary schools. 20% of the students remain out of lower secondary schools.

Despite increasing number of students entering schools, many are grappling with learning challenges. Moreover, in the majority of UNICEF supported countries majority of the students fail to meet the minimum level of performance in Mathematics.
This shows that there hasnât been much progress to drive the students to school since 2007.The study shows the students who are in secondary schools havenât been tutored well enough to solve basic mathematics. This goes on to show the globally deteriorating state of education.
The primary reasons why students remain out of schools is because most students find themselves unable to fit in schools. They seem to a sense of belonging either in the school or with their peers. Moreover, the inability to deal with the academic stress among many students also becomes a reason for the dropping out of a large number of students from schools.
